🗓 Full Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in the Hindu Kush Valley – Kabul
Arrival in Kabul, Afghanistan’s mountain-ringed capital city. Following airport transfer and security protocols, we check into our hotel. In the afternoon, we take a preliminary walk through the city and get our first taste of authentic Afghan cuisine with a traditional dinner featuring the famous Kabuli Pulao (fragrant spiced rice with meat).
Day 2: Millennium-Old History of Kabul & The Magic of the Bird Market
A full day dedicated to exploring the capital. We visit the beautifully restored Babur Gardens, the final resting place of the founder of the Mughal Empire. We wander through the incredibly photogenic Ka Faroshi Bird Market, where time has stood still in its narrow alleys. We also view the Kabul Museum and the walls of the historic fortress towering over the city.
Day 3: Journey to the Heart of the Hazarajat – Bamyan
In the morning, we embark on a scenic mountain drive into the picturesque Bamyan Valley, the cultural center of the Hazara people. Upon arrival, we visit the monumental cliffside where the world's largest 6th-century Buddha Statues once stood. Although the statues were destroyed, the massive niches and the labyrinth of monk cells carved into the rock remain a spiritual and awe-inspiring sight.
Day 4: Turquoise Waters of Band-e Amir National ParkOne of the most spectacular days of our journey
We visit Afghanistan’s first national park, the Band-e Amir lakes. Tucked away in a desert, canyon-like landscape, the sight of six deep, turquoise, and crystal-clear lakes formed by natural travertine dams is beyond words. We walk along the lakeshores, enjoy the tranquility of nature, and return to our Bamyan hotel in the evening.
Day 5: Travel to North Afghanistan's Jewel Box – Mazar-e-Sharif
We leave Bamyan and head north through the dramatic passes of the Hindu Kush mountain range (including the Salang Tunnel) until we reach the capital of Balkh province, the city of Mazar-e-Sharif. We check into our hotel by evening.
Day 6: The Blue Mosque of Mazar-e-Sharif & Ancient Balkh
In the morning, we admire the country’s most beautiful architectural masterpiece, the Blue Mosque (Shrine of Hazrat Ali), where every square inch is decorated with brilliant blue mosaics. In the afternoon, we visit the nearby ancient ruins of Balkh, once a vital center of Buddhism, Zoroastrianism, and Islam, where Alexander the Great himself once stayed.
Day 7: Domestic Flight to Kabul & Souvenir Shopping in the Bazaar
In the morning, we take a scheduled domestic flight back to Kabul. The rest of the day is dedicated to shopping: we explore the artisan markets to browse through world-class Afghan carpets, lapis lazuli jewelry, dried fruits, and high-quality saffron. We celebrate our journey with a festive farewell dinner.
Day 8: Farewell to the Hindu Kush & Departure
Depending on your international flight schedule, we transfer to Kabul International Airport for your flight back to Budapest, carrying home memories of a truly extraordinary journey.
